Grand Unveiling Day!
Children's Museum of Virginia
The VGG 2016 donation glass art project: Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, VA!
With the assistance of 50 creative children we are able to complete the fused glass tile mural (4 feet by 4 feet) installed next to the Performance Center in the Museum.
The first weekend of June, the VGG had a hands-on event for the children in the art classroom at the CMV. Between early sign-ups and walk-ins the VGG meet 50 imaginative children. Each child sketched and painted their special spot in the museum. With their guidance from each child, VGG artists translated their painting onto a glass tile using clip glass, frit, stringers, and noodles.
The event was spectacular for both the VGG and the children.

Members: |
Let’s give a gigantic applause to your VGG members: Ali, Holly, Heather, Jenna, Cait, Carolyn, Violet, Chole, AI, Dan, Cathy-Jo, Elaine, Rick, Lisa, Susan, Dan, Robin and our many other assistants. We were astonished by the imagination of 50 children who attended the events on Saturday and Sunday.
|
How it works: |
The glass art experience will involve each child creating a painting on paper with an image answering this one question: "What did you like the most about this Museum?”
Each child will then have the opportunity to make a small fused glass tile of their own design for the mural plus a fused glass pin they can take home. |
Let's Show the Public: |
TV and newspaper coverage will be done by the Children's Museum PR department for the unveiling of the completed work as we set up a tech table and do a meet and greet with parents and children as they see the installed glass artwork plus pick up their completed artwork, too.
