Restoration Tour
Community art is important to us, so we're using this coming year to look back on the art we've donated over the past three decades. And while we restore art in the community, we're taking the chance to educate, too! Each of the 13 sites on the tour is a previous beneficiary of a Guild art donation. Some donated pieces need to be cleaned, some need repair, but they'll all get our attention. We will host an event at each venue, sometimes a workshop, sometimes a make-and-take project, sometimes a lecture. Each event will be tailored to each venue, with no two the same.
"More than any other group of artists I knows, these VGG members are constantly taking workshops, studying their craft, and learning new techniques with they incorporate into their latest work as it evolves and expands." |
"Public art shows such as [the Annual Juried Exhibition] depend on the response of the community they represent. The annual exhibition effort organized by the Board of the Virginia Glass Guild is intended to provide a forum to show the interests, skills, and creativity of its members to the general public." |
"And so strongly do they embrace often challenging concepts, forms and combinations of different media that they not only trample the traditional boundaries of studio glass but also stand out as one of most formidable displays of contemporary art in Hampton Roads this year." |
The History Behind The Guild
The Virginia Glass Guild, formerly known as The Peninsula Glass Guild, was established in 1986 to promote quality glass art in the community and to provide a forum for glass arts. The Virginia Glass Guild is organized for educational, artistic and charitable purposes as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. With this name change in 2015, artists, businesses and supporters living and working throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia are welcome to join the Guild and further the goals that were set by the Founding Members. These goals include the sharing of artistic ideas, expanding knowledge and awareness of glass as an art form, and stretching artistic imagination through exploration of glass as an artistic medium. Members achieve these goals through an annual public donation of art glass or educational materials related to glass to local art centers. To promote awareness of glass as an art form, the Guild sponsored an Annual Juried Exhibition at Hampton for 30 years. After an absence of several years, the Annual Show returned to CHTAC in 2023 and again in 2024!
